I have been looking at this USB midi for my possible eventual up grade to a newer version of windows. Which I have been putting off for as long as possible. This is very much unfamiliar territory for me. Judging by my gear list I'm not surprised. Currently I am still plodding along using a 20+ year old roland mpu-401 midi interface running off my soundblaster. This USB midi has male plugs as opposed to the female sockets on my current midi interface which makes things a little awkward (I think my setup is probably awkward) would I be better off using a PCI USB card rather than the motherboard integrated USB, for this new interface? My SO si Win7 64bit. Usb keyboard and mouse work great. The pad is ok because I have tried another wired one with the same result. Steam controller light flashing home design software for mac. Some of the software I currently use to manage patches may not recognise USB Midi eg the patch editors for the CZ's/TX7 and the SY35, samples for the FZ. (i'm fairly sure they wont) The reason is, I've been eyeing off a yamaha XF8 (or XF6 if there is no space for the 8 ) my pc's I have wont cope with the software for that. I have no idea at the moment where I'm going or what i'm doing with modern stuff. I am open to any tip or pointers. Very much appreciated. It's always a bit of an obstacle course when mixing relatively new gear with older gear. Manufacturers don't want to spend time and money on constantly updating older drivers and in many cases of course newer operating systems just won't allow them to update. So at some point they need to draw a line and say they will no longer support legacy gear.
